Rug Hooking Wool Strip Size

Wool Strip Size

Rug hooking wool is cut into strips to be used in hooking. The strip sizes refer to the width of the strip, the larger the number, the larger the strip.

The most common sizes range from #3 to #8, but can be as small as #2 and as big as #12.

A #4 cut is 1/8 of an inch wide, or approximately 3.2mm wide. A #8 cut is 1/4 of an inch wide, or approximately 6.4mm wide.

Cut sizes can be mixed together in one project, or mixed with other fibre (yarn, velvet, sari silks, etc.). More detailed patterns work well with smaller cuts, and primitive patterns work well with larger cuts.
